AmalialadFor fall 2007, the designer, Janis Stemmerman put her head into 1920’s – from Revolutionary Russia to Parisian avant garde – and kept her feet firmly planted in the morning rush on the New York City subway. Amalialad combines knit traditions with fashion that works in every woman’s wardrobe. Amalialad is based in Brooklyn, New York and was named to honor the Tibetan craftswomen who worked with Janis during a decade directing Brooklyn Handknit. Remember Dalai Lama and spell it backwards and you’ll remember Amalialad. Janis has always told stories with things she makes. Amalialad combines tales of her current urban life with experiences and imaginings all the way back to the deep woods of her New Hampshire childhood. Amalialad marries this kaleidoscopic perspective to the questions of contemporary style.
